Math Enrichment Appeal

Portola PTSA seeks to implement an innovative enrichment program for mathematically advanced students. The program will be a once-a-week math problem-solving class during regular school hours for interested, eligible students currently in Algebra or above. All Portola students will have access to the assignments and support through the weekly Portola Math Club.

The goal of the program is to challenge high-performing studentsto attain a deeper level of mathematical understanding than is possible under the regular curriculum. If successfully funded, Portola PTSA will hire a renowned mathematical problem-solving instructor to implement a curriculum based on the 2012-2013 MathCounts School Handbook and other sources. Students will be selected for the program by measured classroom performance and teacher selection. The pull-out program will be restricted to the strongest students, but all students can participate through Math Club.

School funds are not available for this purpose. Friends of Portola must contribute to bring this much-needed, one-of-a-kind program to our community. We are seeking a minimum of $3,000 for the full year. Your tax-deductible donation will give Portola Middle School new capacity to serve the full spectrum of students.
